DROP-IN & FOOD AID AT ST MARKDALSTON COMMUNITY HALL

Every Tuesday from 10.00 am -2 pm

St Mark's Drop-in has been running for nearly six years. Every Tuesday regardless of the weather, transport strikes, roadblocks aches and pains or anything that might try to stop our regulars and the local community from joining us for a cup of tea/coffee, homemade soup and bread.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we have not been able to provide hot meals, however, that has not stopped the brave regulars from coming and taking a seat with an understanding of social distanci wearing masks where necessary. We are not yet able to continue the arts and crafts which has been one of the main attractions for the drop-in club. Regardless, there a always topics to discuss amongst each other, this could be the daily news, the virus, war, the Prime Minister, price rises in the shops, home remedies for the prevention of the virus, and sometimes in the company of others.

The Ds to reach out and support the local community, the homeless, the unemployed people living on their own, the elderly and anyone needing spiritual support.

Thanks to Rev Josh for his support in helping to make it a success. Thanks to the congregation here at St. Mark’s, for their generosity in supplying a wide range of food items and toiletries to help the Food-Aid (cupboard) and for spreading the news throughout the community.

We are thankful for Mark &Spencer food halls in Dalston and Mare Street, which supply us with a surplus of fruits and vegetables, various varieties of bread and cakes and other general food items, not forgetting beautiful flowers. Due to the Coronavirus, hot meals are not yet being served to the public, however, we continue to support the community, three times a week with food items from the cupboard and the donation from Mark & Spencer.

Thanks to the kindness of the Church members and Mark & Spencer we can support many families with food items toiletries and a balanced meal throughout the pandemic when family members have lost their jobs or are unable to work due to ill health.
Although the Drop -in remains closed, some of the volunteers/staff are still committed to helping with the distribution of food to support the community, their compassion and dedication to these causes are very much appreciated We are also thankful to Gloria for her help and support as part of the team.
